Sew Over It Ultimate Trousers made by Adelle

Friday 18th January 2019

Hello, I'm Adelle and I am on a mission to create a handmade wardrobe. I'm so excited to be asked to review this fabric for the Material Girl Laura blog. The Fabric I've struggled finding cotton sateen in the past with the correct ratio of stretch with structure. I look for a cotton that has a good amount of stretch to give some room for me to move but enough structure to give that clean tailored look. This Lady McElroy Fruits Of The Forest Stretch Cotton Sateen contains 3% spandex and is the perfect choice for a pair of trousers. The pattern consists of a woodland scene, with flowers, birds and insects and the…

The perfect Christmas Party Dress

Friday 21st December 2018

When I set out making the Sew Over It Betty Dress I never realised I would fall head over heels in love with it. I felt like a million dollars in this dress. It is perfect for a Party, Special Meal or Wedding. I decided on making it in the John Kaldor Coffee Stretch Crepe as I wanted something really special with that wow factor that would make me feel like I had bought the dress from somewhere like Reiss or Ted Baker. That is exactly what I got with this fabric. It feels like such a polished version of the Betty Dress. This fabric is also an…

New Craft House Winter Party

Saturday 8th December 2018

We had so much fun together at the New Craft House Party. I met some lovely people and me and my friends had a super time. I made a True Bias Ogden Cami made in Atelier Brunette Stardust Night Double Cotton Gauze and a Sew Over It Circle Skirt made in a Velvet Upholstery fabric. I think because it was velvet and a bit more bulkier maybe, it didn't fit at first so I cut about 3/8" off the top of the skirt and reattached the waistband and it fit really well then. I was so behind after this set back and had to hem some of it on the train to London and…

Another Ogden Cami

Saturday 30th June 2018

This pattern has quickly become a firm favourite of mine. I love everything about it. This time I chose our gorgeous Atelier Brunette Stardust Black Double Cotton Gauze. Its perfect for the hot weather we are currently having in the UK and perfect for layering in the colder months. I wanted it to be a touch roomier so I sewed it up on a 3/8 seam instead. With it being gauze and quite a delicate fabric that can sometimes like to fray as a precautionary measure I overlocked all the edges I could once I had done…

My Stripy Coco

Tuesday 29th May 2018

I had day dreamed about this Tilly And The Buttons Coco Top long enough before I got going with it so I thought I better get a move on and get one done! The Yarn Dyed Light Blue Striped Jersey I used for this top is the most gorgeous blue. Its soft and lovely and washes a dream. I've washed it several times already. On its first outing on a breakfast date with my lovely sewing friends Sew Little Sparrow and…

True Bias Ogden Cami

Friday 11th May 2018
Laura

I had been wanting to make this pattern for some time. I have been so inspired by all the Ogden's being made by people in the Sewing Community. I have been particularly inspired by Button and Pips ever expanding collection of them. Each one beautiful in its own right. You can also find Ogden inspiration on our Hall Of Makes too. There is a particularly gorgeous one featured. When our [Couture Dreamer Nude Soft Silky Satin Border Print=?Page_ID=3610&id=754386 came in I just…

Chantelle's Tilly and the Buttons Marigold trousers

Friday 13th April 2018
Chantelle

I finally feel like Summer is approaching and cannot wait for warmer days. During this time I love to wear pastel colours to match all the beautiful blooms that are all around. I had been lusting after the See You At Six Lines Pink Viscose Rayon fabric for a while so I knew now was my chance to make something with it. It is the most glorious delicate pink fabric with subtle ecru lines. When I first touched the fabric, I was amazed by how soft and tactile…
